Meet the Board

Anthony Stovall
Founder/President
Chief Master Sergeant Anthony Stovall (Ret.) is a transformational leader with a distinguished record of driving strategic growth and organizational excellence. With a graduate degree in Transformational Leadership and a Doctorate in Business Administration in progress, Anthony applies a high-level academic framework to the mission-focused execution of our organization. His expertise in executive communications, program analytics, and strategic talent management was honed over a stellar military career where he led large-scale modernization initiatives and aviation operations. In addition to his leadership here, he serves on the Richland County Community Relations Council, advocating for justice and mutual respect throughout South Carolina. Anthony’s vision is centered on a purpose-driven strategy, ensuring that our nonprofit remains a resilient catalyst for community impact and educational advancement.

Dr. Shelley Canright
Executive Secretary
Dr. Shelley Canright brings to our board a remarkable career legacy, including over 30 years of leadership at NASA where she served as a global advocate for STEM education. During her tenure, she addressed the United Nations on space education and spearheaded a community of practice supporting nonprofits across 29 states in meeting federal project requirements. A recipient of NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal and the national Space Educator Award, Dr. Canright is a recognized expert in using mission-based storytelling to inspire the next generation of explorers. Since relocating to Columbia, South Carolina, she has dedicated her retirement to local service, completing the United Way’s Blueprint for Leadership program. Her local governance experience is extensive, having served in executive and committee roles for the South Carolina Ballet, SC First Steps, and the United Way of the Midlands Education Council. Dr. Canright’s unique blend of federal strategic experience and deep commitment to community impact makes her a visionary addition to our leadership team.

Dr. Maggie Griffin
Vice President
Dr. Maggie L. Griffin joins our board as a distinguished retired educator with over 36 years of leadership experience, ranging from the classroom to the superintendency of two school districts. Throughout her prolific career, she has been recognized as a Level 5 School Principal and a recipient of the "Closing the Achievement Gap Award," reflecting her lifelong commitment to academic excellence and equity. Beyond her administrative success, Dr. Griffin has served in vital governance roles on the boards of the Mississippi Association of School Administrators and various community colleges. Her dedication to service extends deep into the community through her volunteer work with the Seashore Mission Homeless Shelter and leadership roles within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and St. Peter the Apostle Parish. Dr. Griffin’s extensive background in curriculum development and quality assurance makes her an invaluable asset to our organization’s strategic vision.

Denny Richardson
Executive Director
Chief Master Sergeant (Ret) Denny L. Richardson is a distinguished senior executive leader and educator with over 30 years of experience in national defense and organizational culture. Most recently, he served as the Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Continental U.S. NORAD Region, where he was the principal advisor for the welfare and professional development of over 10,000 Airmen. Throughout a decorated career that included deployments to Antarctica and the Middle East, Denny became a respected expert in human capital strategy and enterprise-level decision-making. His academic background is equally robust, featuring executive studies at the Harvard Kennedy School and the National Defense University. Now the founder of L.E.A.D. Solutions, he leverages his experience as a motivational speaker to help organizations build cultures rooted in accountability and trust. Denny’s profound commitment to people-first leadership and legacy-building makes him a powerful strategic asset to our board.

Jamie Givins
Treasurer
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Jamison “Jamie” Givins brings over 30 years of diverse professional experience in the education, administrative, financial, and insurance sectors. As an original founding executive board member and former CFO of FHL, Jamie offers a deep institutional history and a strong foundation in fiscal oversight. His commitment to community service is evidenced by hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours dedicated to prison ministries and life development across South Carolina and Georgia. Beyond his ministry work, he has volunteered extensively in youth mentorship and leadership development initiatives. Jamie’s approach to governance is driven by a profound belief that service is a call to action to provide positive influence and meet the tangible needs of the community. His unique blend of financial expertise and compassionate outreach makes him a cornerstone of our leadership team.

Nancy Stovall
Executive Secretary
Mrs. Nancy S. Stovall joins our board with over 30 years of dedicated service to the U.S. Air Force, both as a 20-year active-duty veteran and a distinguished civilian leader. Currently serving as the Chief of the Training Development Element at Keesler Air Force Base, she leads the production of diverse educational programs for over 2,300 students annually across multiple military specialties. Her extensive background spans roles in Security Forces and Meteorology, eventually transitioning into specialized curriculum development and instructional design. A decorated leader, Mrs. Stovall has been honored with the Meritorious Service Medal and the Exemplary Civilian Service Award for her excellence in management and personnel development. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology, further deepening her expertise in modern educational platforms. Driven by a philosophy that education empowers communities, she is committed to fostering a culture of learning and inspiring the next generation of innovators.

Carla Robinson-Nugent
Public Relations/Marketing Director
Carla Nugent brings to our team a distinguished 40-year legacy in education, characterized by a steadfast commitment to the philosophy that every child possesses the innate potential to learn. Throughout her extensive career, she has specialized in fostering confidence and independence in students, navigating the unique challenges of the classroom with the belief that growth flourishes when met with the right opportunity and support.
A highly decorated professional, Carla has been honored as District Teacher of the Year and recognized in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. Her deep pedagogical expertise is supported by a degree in Early Childhood Education and specialized certifications in both STEM and Gifted instruction. Beyond the classroom, she is a dedicated leader and community advocate, serving as a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and contributing countless volunteer hours to local service initiatives. Carla’s blend of specialized instructional mastery and her lifelong dedication to educational equity makes her an invaluable asset to our mission.
